Outdoor Classroom Fundraiser
This page was created for our fundraising campaign to fund a covered outdoor classroom at Madison Elementary in 2026. Our goal is to raise $60,000 by January 31, 2026 to fund the project.
The Green & Healthy School Team formed in 2014 as a special committee of the James Madison Elementary School in Stevens Point, WI. At the time, a group of parents and teachers joined together to launch green and healthy initiatives at the school. They did campaigns to collect plastic bags, markers, and shoes for recycling. With funding from a Lowes Grant, they developed an outdoor learning space in the northside forested area of the property with trails and a sitting area, their first big project. That area has since become a certified Wisconsin School Forest and trails are maintained every year. Additional green and healthy school projects at Madison since they started meeting include:
Bluebird houses have been installed,
Water filling stations have been added in the school,
Native plants and trees have been planted throughout the school grounds,
Annual events of Green Apple Day of Services, Great Lakes Apple Crunch, Bike Rodeo, and Spring Family Walk and Roll, and
Grow towers in 3rd grade classrooms.
Now we plan to raise enough funds to add an intentional learning space for teachers and the school community to use for learning and special events. Help us grow!
This project idea started long ago. We have an outdoor learning space in the school forest. It is a 15 minute walk from the school building and gets used by a few classes each year. Teachers would like to take their classes outdoors more often, but do not always have the extra 30 minutes to walk there and back. We wish to add another outdoor learning area that is covered and can be used for 1-2 classrooms and small special events for the school community.
